A community focused, not-for-profit, financial institution

Mass Bay Credit Union is a not for profit financial institution dedicated to serving the financial needs of our Members. We became a Boston Credit Union in 1936 as a credit union for MBTA employees, but later we expanded to serve the local community as Mass Bay Credit Union. We saw a local need for a financial institution that puts people, not institutional profit, at the forefront of its mission, and we brought that “people helping people” vision to life. Today at Mass Bay Credit Union we find many ways to embody the mantra People Helping People — it's still, and will always be our approach. 

We’re a full-service financial institution providing a complete range of services including state of the art online and mobile banking, checking & savings accounts, home loans, auto loans, personal loans etc. We are a credit union where people can manage their finances with confidence, get free financial education, member discounts, and will always be supported by local representatives who understand and care.

Membership is open to:

  • Anyone who lives, works or attends a school, college or university or belongs to a labor organization located within Norfolk County, Suffolk County, Middlesex County, Abington, Brockton, Hanover, Hingham, Lynn, Marshfield, Norwell, Peabody, Rockland, Saugus, Scituate, and Whitman.
  • Employees or former employees of entities affiliated with MassDOT.
  • Employees of entities who are members of labor unions affiliated with MassDOT.
  • Employees or former employees of the Massachusetts State Police
  • Immediate Family Members of eligible members.

The Credit Union Difference

A credit union is a full service financial instituion that serves the local community and is owned by its members.  When you open up an account with us, no matter how small, you become a partial owner with the right to vote for who will lead the organization. This is also why many Credit Unions refer to their customers as “members.”

This means that Mass Bay Credit Union is owned and run by members. Mass Bay is a non-profit organization, so our net income is reinvested right back to you and our community in the form of competitive rates, lower fees, financial education, new technology, and community impact.
