People Helping People

Mass Bay Credit Union Charitable Foundation contributes both financially, and through volunteer efforts, to make our communities better places to live and work. Following the credit union ideal of “People Helping People,” our Foundation and our teams strive to positively impact the communities we serve. Some of the causes we assist include: providing scholarship opportunities for high school seniors, offering financial education, and donating to causes that have a positive local impact.

Coat & Warm Clothing Drive

We love partnering with the Friends of Boston Homeless for the Annual Warm Hands Warm Hearts Winter Apparel Drive.

Each year, from Thanksgiving until the end of January, we invite our Members to donate new, or gently used, coats and warm clothing items. The items collected are distributed to the homeless in our community.

Over 200 warm clothing items were donated in early 2020 in thanks to the generosity of our Foundation and our Members.

Rosie's Place

In 2019 & 2020, through the contribution of our Foundation, our teams prepared, cooked, and served dinner at Rosie's Place in Boston, MA. Rosie's Place provides meals and shelter for homeless women in Boston.

In 2019 we teamed up with Friends of Boston's Homeless, the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), and the City of Boston to help our local homeless overcome foundational life-rebuilding challenges. One very real challenege can be opening a savings account without a permanent address.

As a part of our partnership, BPHC places their client into a work program to help them save money. Mass Bay Credit Union participates in a partial matching program to help make their savings go farther. Twice per month we travel to the Health Commission to open savings accounts and provide financial education seminars for those who are living in their shelters.

We hope these efforts help our new Members get back on their feet with a solid foundation for a better life.

We are proud to support the Quincy School Community Partnership. Each September, the Mass Bay Charitable Foundation provides over 300 backpacks with school supplies for the Francis W. Parker Elementary School.

As a part of this program, we are participating in the Credit For Life Fair for Quincy High School Students. At this event, high school students are given the opportunity to project their future finances using realistic salaries and expenses.

Through our annual essay contest, our Foundation awards four college-bound high school seniors $1,000 scholarships each, to offset some costs of their freshman year.

The application is open each year from February 1st until April 30th. Students must submit an application, their high school transcript, and a 250-word essay.

Golf Tournament

We host a charity golf tournament annually to raise funds for our Foundation.

Come spend a day with us on the course to sharpen your skills, connect with your community, and give back to a great cause. Registration for our tournament will open in the spring. 100% of the funds raised at this event are given back to the community through our Charitable Foundation.

Thank you to all those who supported the event in the past. We look forward to seeing you in August!

If you would like to partner with us, or donate to the foundation, please send us an email.
