Summer can be a fun and busy time of year in New England. Remember: don't let your guard down! It's also the time of year when fraudsters are alive and well and attempting to gain access to vulnerable individuals. If someone calls, texts, emails, or looks over your shoulder at an ATM, beware! Mass Bay Credit Union will never call, text, or email you in search of your private or account information. If you think someone is trying to scam you and they say they are MBCU, hang up, don't reply and don't open attachments! And then, call us at 617-269-2700 and let us know. Have a fun summer!

Medicare Open Enrollment runs from October 15 through December 7, and it is important to be cautious of anyone contacting you about Medicare! Medicare will never call or visit to sell anything and will only reach out if you have contacted them first or reported potential fraud. Protect your personal information and never share your Medicare number, Social Security number, or bank or credit union details with anyone you do not know or trust. If you suspect a scam, report it at www.medicare.gov/basics/reporting-medicare-fraud-and-abuse or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
As part of our ongoing effort to help members stay safe and secure online, here are some additional steps you can follow:
Review your records carefully. Compare the dates and services listed on your medical calendar with the statements you receive to make sure every entry is correct.
Keep your personal information private. Guard your Medicare card, number, Social Security number, and other personal data, sharing only with trusted doctors or approved insurers.
Understand how your information is used. Know how your health or drug plan uses your personal data.
Be wary of unsolicited offers. Never give your Medicare number or other sensitive information to anyone offering “free medical care” or calling unexpectedly to “sell” services.
Report suspicious activity. If you suspect fraud or identity theft, such as someone using your information without permission, contact Medicare directly (see above).
Mass Bay Credit Union is here for you. If you have any questions about identity protection, or if you believe you may have been targeted by a scam, please reach out to: 617-269-2700 or email us at memberservices@massbaycu.org
